I have a single ATV3

I have a smart thermostat Ecobee 3, I am able to control remotely.

Purchased Eve Energy, and when I select the room / device the app thinks and thinks and finally says unable to communicate and shows me data from last sync (when onsite).

At first power up, the Eve had a firmware update which was applied.

I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble with your new Eve Energy. Try the following things in order, and if you still need help, contact me directly at adam (at) elgato (dot) com.

  • turn off your Apple TV
  • turn off your phone's Bluetooth and restart it
  • unplug Eve Energy, wait 15 seconds
  • plug in Eve Energy
  • turn on your Apple TV, wait until it's booted to launch the Eve app

You mention that you're able to control your Ecobee from afar - since Ecobee also run their own cloud service for remote access, you may not actually be using your Apple TV for remote access yet. Look at the troubleshooting sections "Control your accessories away from home" and "If you can't use HomeKit remotely with your Apple TV" in the Apple FAQ at https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT204893.
