Elgato Game Capture on Mac Question

Hello all!

I was wondering if it would be possible to just use the Elgato game capture just to record the Mac (or PC) and not needing to hooking it up to a separate monitor/PC/Mac or whatever.

So what I am saying is whether I can use the capture device solely on a single machine, as long as I have the correct cables and compatibility.
