I'm an American citizen living abroad, and I was looking into ElGato tuners (USA, Germany). I'd like to buy the tuner in the USA to take advantage of the weak dollar, bring it to Europe, and then bring it back to the US if and when I ever move back.

My question is, does anyone know if these tuners are fully compatible with the broadcast formats in both North America and Europe? I don't plan on using the satellite or cable capabilities, just the plain ol' digital-over-the-air transmissions.

Seems like a simple question that would be relevant to, say, any Mac-using business travelers, but it's not on ElGato's FAQ.

Thanks in advance.

Since no one appeared to know the answer (or couldn't be bothered to respond), here's the reply I got from Elgato's customer service:

Thank you for contacting Elgato.

Unfortunately, there is no Elgato tuner device that works across both North America's ATSC/NTSC format and Europe's DVB-T format. These devices are sadly incompatible with the broadcast standards of the other.

I am sorry for this inconvenience.

So there you have it.
