I remember when the iMac 1Ghz superdrive was released there was talk that most of them were shipping with a sony DVD writer over the Pioneer model that Apple has used mostly in the past. I was just wondering if anyone who has bought a new eMac with superdrive could report if the drive is a sony or a pioneer. My apple centre hasn't got one on display yet (they have them in stock just not on display). Thanks...

My Combo drive is a Phillips

I'm using my brand new 1ghz eMac with a combo drive. I took a look in the apple profiler and it says the vendor for the cdrw/dvd-rom drive is from "Phillips". Is anybody surprised by this? Has Phillips supplied dvd-rom drives for apple before?

Yes, as far as I know Apple have been putting Philips combo drives in the MDD towers.
