eMac and 1GB Ram sticks...compatible?

Although I have seen a few threads, here and there, that have brought up the issue, I haven't really seen any real EVIDENCE whether or not these two will work together. In fact, the most I've seen is people quoting the Apple Specs, which time and time again (a la the original iMac, and even currently with the new DDR iMacs) have been proven not to be the be-all-end-all of expandability. Has anybody tried this out, or at least know if there is any reason (system architecture, etc) that this combination absolutely couldn't work? TIA!
