eMac & w/l access point problem

I have a eMac running OS 10.2.2 with an airport card. and I have a Belkin wireless access point connected to router which is connected to a cable modem. How do I make the airport and the access point talk to each other. I got it to work for like 2 minutes, twice. But I think it was just luck. The airport card is not getting any signal from the wireless Access Point. I know its not because its too far because I moved my eMac next to it and still nothing. The airport is turned on, and I don't seem to be recieving any signal from the access point. If anyone can help me I'd really appreciate it! Thanks!
