eMac Worth £45 ($70)?

Hey guys, I'm a previous owner of an iBook G3, I find the new intel Macs less characteristic than the PowerPC's, and I'm having Mac withdrawal symptoms since not having a Mac for a few months now, I've got a perfectly fine Windows PC but I NEED A MAC!

And I've found an eMac for 40 quid, or 70 dollars, whatever. Specs -

1ghz PowerPC G4 Processor
512mb RAM (Would upgrade to 1gb)
40gb HDD
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.11

Worth it?

I have one of them, but with a much bigger hard drive, the full 1GB of memory, and 10.5.8 installed. I'd say it's worth it, they're reliable, just upgrade the RAM and OS.
 
If it's USB 2.0 and not 1.1 then possibly yes.

Just checked and the 1GHz eMacs do not have USB 2.0.

At this point it is up to you. It is still a good machine and at least has firewire.
 
I have that exact eMac, and I can say mine has USB 2.0. Mine is a 1.25GHz G4 under clocked to 1GHz because it is an education model. The easiest way to tell if the eMac has USB 2.0 is to ask the seller what kind of RAM it has, if it has SD RAM, it does not have USB 2.0.. If it has DDR ram, it will have USB 2.0

The eMac is an amazingly reliable and capable Mac, when you get it install Leopard and boost the ram to 1GB. I highly recommend it!
 
I got my 1.25 for 40 dollars, then it was like 50 dollars to ship the damn thing. I had an extra gig of ram from my old pc that blew up and I used my old PC's 80 gig hard drive when I got a new drive for christmas. It's a great machine, I upgraded mine to Leopard. You kinda have to upgrade to Leopard because even Adium no longer support Tiger.

I'd go for it, It's capable.
 
Personally, although I love my 700Mhz eMac, I wouldn't spend 45 quid on one unless I really really wanted the design, just as Ive seen PowerMac G4 MDDs go for less than that on UK eBay recently, and their a lot more powerful/capable than an eMac. (Even a Dual 867 G4 will outperform a Single 1Ghz in nearly everything). MDDs are also a lot easier to upgrade. Just my 2¢
 
I got a emac 1.25Ghz USB 2.0 2GB RAM with the oringal box, keybord, mouse, dvi to vga plug, extarnel lg usb dvd burner For a family member as her first mac for $50 it is a very nice computer and has had 0 issues it can even play youtube videos and facebook games good. if i wear you i wood offer the persion $40-$45 the one i bought was $70 but i offerd him $50 and he took it. :)
 
yes the 1 ghz came in 2 variations
The consumer model with usb 1.1 which is a overclocked 800mhz model to keep it simple with a 133mhz frontside bus
The educational model with usb 2.0 which is a downclocked 1.25 ghz model with 167mhz frontside bus and often came without optical drive or only cd rom

£40 is a fair price anyway no matter for which model
