email alerts

I'm pretty limited compared to the smart people around here.
Can anyone tell me how to install an audible or visual 'New email' alert please?
I'm running Leopard on an iMac and using Yahoo! for emailing.
Would I be better of using the mac mail or whatever it is? It costs doesn't it?

You can configure Mail.app to pick up mail from your Yahoo account which won't cost you anything. You just need to go into Mail Preferences and then accounts and enter the account information there.

You might be thinking about the .Mac service which includes an "@mac.com" e-mail address which does cost money for a yearly subscription.

mail has an audio new mail sound. you can use growlmail to have a visual.
