Email Badge Icon Issues?

After updated to iOS9, I noticed that my email app icon does not display the number of unread emails with the traditional little red circle. My notification settings are all set to ON for the "Badge App Icon" so I am not sure why they are not showing. Other notification bubbles like texts and phone calls do show this.

Does anyone else have this issue or perhaps had it with similar updates?

I've sort of had the opposite problem where the app has a badge but no new emails lol! It takes manually refreshing the app to get it to remove the badge.
