I have been part of the iPhone upgrade program since its inception. I received an email today telling me I am now eligible to upgrade my phone. Since I have an iPhone11, there is no upgrade! Since we have no idea when the 12 will be released, seems like we are going to end up "overpaying" for our 11's.

Anyone hear what Apple is going to do?

If you have to make 2 extra payments waiting for the iPhone 12, don’t you get some kind of money back or off if you then change the phone in October? I mean the iUP is already expensive but I’d expect some kind of rebate.

From what I can delineate from the terms and conditions of the iPhone Upgrade Program is that you enter in to a 24 month loan with the option to upgrade from 6 months (once 12 monthly payments have been made). Most people just pay 12 payments then upgrade at a new launch though.

Due to the current epidemic Apples new iPhone release has slipped a month, I believe you’ll just have to make another payment until the new ones are released and then you can upgrade then. Like I said, you’re in a 24 month agreement.

It’s not been a normal year so things aren’t always going to be just as they were. I could be wrong though - it’s been known.

You are leasing the phone and making a payment each month for the thrill. If you end up having to pay an extra month or two, what is the big deal? You can still upgrade when the new phones are released., which will be October, more than likely.
Unless you can get away with only making 10 payments on iPhone 12, or whatever, Apple gets two extra payments out of you that you never get back.

Well, you can’t lease a phone for free. People shouldn’t expect to use a leased phone and not have to make a payment because Apple doesn’t release a phone when it is convenient for them.

Those in the leasing program should read the TOS.

My argument was merely conceptual; I’m not in the iUP. Of course, I agree with you that the TOS prevail.

I believe that it all works out in the long run. As previously stated it’s a leased phone anyway. You’re still using the phone you have for the extra time so you aren’t giving Apple anything 🤷🏽‍♂️

That’s not how it works. From Apples POV the phone you have on iUP is paid for. They received the whole payment from Citizens One when you joined iUP / upgraded on iUP. If anything you’ll be making two extra payments to Citizens One but even that would be incorrect to say. Since you’re technically on the hook for a 2 year loan.

Yep the iUP is a lease program if the user is upgrading in less than 24 months so I agree with what others have said here. The phone is only yours once you’ve finished paying for it. With a fixed contract you are always buying the phone over a fixed term, whereas iUP offers the advantage of upgrading after just 12 payments and effectively transferring the lease to the next model. If the OP has to wait for another 2 payments until they upgrade, they are still paying to use the iPhone they have. The more I think about it the more I realise there is nothing to complain about here.

what will happen next year then?

You need to make 11 payments to upgrade so with the iPhone being released in October this year we are fine

When the iPhone gets released in September next year you will have only made 10 months of payments?

I'd guess they are going to move it to 10 monthly payments for an upgrade due to this

Or the person will upgrade the following month. Either way the person is still getting a new phone in the same time frame.

Best way to do it, when you can get the IP12, pay the outstanding amount on your current phone outright so you own the phone then sell it to one of these Cash 4 Mobile websites.

You can bet the amount you get for the phone will be more than the amount you've spent to pay it off.

Quids in.

It's what I'll be doing with my XS Max

How do you find out how much the outstanding amount is?

You can log into your Citizens One loan online...same way you change your method of payment, etc. The account number you need is printed at the bottom of the looooong receipt you got when you got your phone.
