email messages are multiplying in the trash

Very weird thing happening: Multiple email entries are appearing in my trashed email section on my Iphone. If I create an email on my Mac and send it normally, multiple different or similar versions of that email are appearing in the trashed section of the mail app for the same email address. Similar as if I actually trashed the email. Different because the copy is not identical to the sent email. Sometimes its the first sentence only, sometimes the first two, sometimes entirely different copy. Have only noticed this with two different emails recently. Both times 4 trashed versions of the sent email are showing up. I did not purposefully trash these emails either on my computer or on my phone. If I made it on my computer it wouldn't even show up in the sent section of the Iphone. Of course my computer and Iphone are synced and push notificationed for email.

Any ideas?
