iPod touch Email on Touch

Does the email automatically check for new messages (when in a wifi area) and then display how many from the main page like the iPhone?

Or is it just an application which you have to press 'send and recieve' and you can only see how many new messages from you inbox?

Yes, it does. It'll even do it when the iPod is asleep. Often I wake it up and the Mail icon has a '1' in the corner.

And sometimes a '2'. But not often. I don't have many friends.

You can set it to never check or every 15, 30 and 60 minutes.
