When I try to initiate checking email or sending email from my Ultra 2,
iPhone switched off...

I get the messages:

Cannot Get Mail
No connection to retrieve
messages

Unable to Send Message
No email accounts available to send
message

If My iPhone is switched on then the watch replicates the incoming.
though I still cannot send (either as a reply or new emails)

I have tested the above with Wifi and 4G

Can the watch work with email, in this regard, without the iPhone
being on ?

Thanks in advance.

Did you ensure that you added your email account to your Apple Watch via the iPhone prior to going off the grid?

Which email account did you add on your Apple Watch?

My research points to that on cellular only (no Wifi, no iPhone nearby) you cannot send and receive email
with the exception of iCloud email.

So as a workaround I have created an iCloud email address and have mail forwarded from my primary email
address. So I get a copy of incoming at the primary and iCloud addresses, the later of which I can see on my
watch on cellular only.

Would prefer to just see the primary email though this seems it is not an option ?
