Are there any decent Mac email programs with offline mode? Mail used to work but now Offline mode doesn't work with Gmail in Mail.app. I want to check and respond to email without being distracted by new incoming messages.

Any suggestions?

You want to check and respond to email offline? Do you mean you want to go offline and then read what has previously come in and compose replies and new mail?

I think OP means like outlook/outlook express.

it emails could be read once downloaded.

then can reply to them and they sit in outbox then once you go online again it auto sends the emails.

Think this was more of the dialup days as most connections are now always on it is no longer an issues that we must go offline for emails

Yes, I want to download all my mail, set the application to offline mail so new mail does not enter the mailbox, read and compose messages (and use safari to research necessary items on the net), then change the app to online mode several hours letter to send messages and download new ones.

In mail app, fetch mail manually does not work with Gmail. It works the first time and then continuously fetches automatically anytime I read a message in the folder. This behavior is confirmed on several computers.

Are there any mail programs with true offline mode?

The behavior you're describing is relatively new with Mail (a cause of confusion in the above answers, I think) and I'm not even sure why it occurs.

Hopefully some folks here can actually relate some direct experience and let you know if a particular app they're using with Gmail has or doesn't have a functional "offline" mode.
