There is a Mac Pro thread -
(The "I just ordered/bought/got my new/refurb Mac Pro" thread [merged])
where a google spreadsheet was created to track new Mac Pro orders.

Would the following forum rule (or any other rule) prevent the sending of a private email to encourage people to complete their spreadsheet data when they receive their new Mac Pro?

"3 - Soliciting. You may not use the forums to solicit donations, votes, or participants for surveys, contests, petitions, or product testing. Employment requests/offers are limited to the Marketplace forum and subject to the Marketplace Rules."

Thanks

I would say it would contravene the solicitation rule as you suggested.

Soliciting. You may not use the forums to solicit donations, votes, or participants for surveys, contests, petitions, or product testing. Employment requests/offers are limited to the Marketplace forum and subject to the Marketplace Rules.

You could however link to the thread / post in question within your signature asking other members to PM you if they are interested.
