Email that syncs with Entourage folders?

Now that Hotmail only supports POP email with Entourage, I'm looking for a free email address that allows me to sync folders with Entourage (I'm using 2004 on OS 10.5). I do not know much about email technology, because I haven't had to know much since using Entourage with my Hotmail account has been been a really good solution. I have heard that Gmail can do this. I'm open to switching to using Apple's Mail, iCal, and Contacts programs or any other free programs and clients. I just want to be able to sync my folders, because I like to have rules that dictate where some messages go, and I like having access to my sent items, whether I am checking my email via the internet at work or if I am using an email client (such as Entourage) on my MacBook.
