So earlier today i sent Steve Jobs an email about OSX Lion's new feature-autosave. I didn't like the fact that i had to make the initial save to enable Autosave; because then there is no point in having autosave if it isn't going to be there from the get go. In my email, i asked Job's if we could have Pages enable Autosave automatically-in the sense that, once we first launch pages, it prompts us to name the document so Autosave will be there from the get go, imposed to us making the initial save. :)

Good idea. Steve Jobs gets on my nerves.

How would autosave save it if it doesnt know what name to save it to?

I think that's what the original post is about. It could make it easier if when opening a new document it asked for you name it. Then autosave would just work without thinking about it again. I agree though right now it is good that is doesn't just save "untitled." I think the new method would work better though.

Hmmmmm......... Textedit certainly didn't make me save for a first time in order for it to auto save, though once I've closed TextEdit having forgotten to do the initial save, I don't know if there's any validity period on the none saved version that TextEdit keeps.......

As to the likely reply from his High Exaltedness......

"Not that big of a deal

Open a new doc, edit it, close Pages. It will open next time you open Pages, without saving...

I'm sure Steve will come to your house for a few beers to discuss your issue.
All you did was add yourself to his spam list.

Since Steve is still out on sick leave, I'm sure he is ready his mail especially this one.

He's actually still involved in the operation of apple, just not the day to day minutia. There's various reports out on the intarweb where he's responding to emails or news about him not micromanaging stuff at apple right now. As by his presence at WWDC and the iPad2 he's still active

I've sent steve an email on Tuesday and he didn't answer yet

what should I do? resend or wait?
thanks,
p.s sorry for writing it here I didn't know were to post the question...:)

That's what the resume function is for. Problem solved.

That's how Autosave already works, except that you don't have to decide on a name right away. It would be a real hassle to be forced to instantly give each document you create a name.

By the way, even Spotlight finds "unsaved" (unnamed) documents for you and will send you to the correct application window. Very useful indeed.
