email wont receive since 8.1

Hey, I have an ipad 3 and ipad air. After updating the ipad 3 and ipad air to 8.1, the ipad 3 runs sluggishly and the air is fine. I have 4 giggs of unused space on the 3. Out of the blue my incoming telus email stopped working on the ipad 3. The only new app since the update was 'dayone' journal. My ipad air has the exact same account and it works fine. i deleted the telus account on the ipad 3 and reentered exactly as per the ipad air. It says the imap server is 'not responding' but it will eventually save the account. It also came up with a message that it will 'try and fix the settings' but after pressing ok nothing seems to happen. It will send mail out but not receive. The emails I send out from the ipad 3 go to my macbookpro and macbook air and iphone to the exact same telus account perfectly fine. Other than this it works sluggishly (since the update)and the screen freezes a few times a day and it almost never froze before the update. I deleted 'dayone' to no avail. I messed with everything possible otherwise and it still won't work. I'm now going to move everything important to the air ( was using solely as a studio) and give up on the ipad3 )+:. I don't think there will be an answer but appreciate any comments anyway. If I've missed some thread about this i apologize -plz redirect me.
