I have a hotmail email account, i was wondering if there is anyway that when i read it on the mac that it shows as read on iphone and ipad or other way round.

From a quick search, it seems that Hotmail does not support IMAP, so no, you cannot.

Maybe they have added Exchange functionality more recently (in which case, yes), but I don't think so.
