Emails updateing even when set to manual

Ive had this re-occurring issue all the way back to my 3gs. Now my 4 is exhibiting the same behavior. I have all email accounts, except mobileme, set to manual as I don't want them to update unless i go into the mail client. However at random times they update on there own anyway. mainly whenever the contact app is used. Can someone please review the following setting and see if they have any suggestions? Anyone else have the same issue?

push = on (for mobileme i assume?)
fetch = manual
yahoo = manual
mobileme = push
comcast = manual
gmail = manual
us holidays = fetch
nascar calender = fetch

I have also tried setting all accounts that are set to manual to fetch hoping that the fetch setting being set to manual would take care of it, but nothing changed

any recommendations?

What I have found is that anytime any part of the mail app is used, it will update a manual email account. Like say you send an email from a program, that would update a manual account, or even if you are in the mail client on a push account, it will update a manual account. As for using the contacts app having it update a manual account, i'm not sure.

I have also seen this issue with the iOS4 on my Iphone 4 & iPhone 3Gs
