I (foolishly) left my 23 inch ACD in my dorm over Christmas break, and I come back to find a cup with some drink (practically empty) dissolved, leaked over the entire book shelf and a bit of the front of my monitor...and harderend. Much like candle wax. I already feel terrible about it, so please, no lectures

Since it's not just a liquid on it and actually hardened onto the monintor, any ideas on how to get it off? I've been testing things on the other stuff it leaked on, and it seems warm water will get it off decently. Will this hurt my monitor?

And any ideas?

Thanks!

As long as you don't let any water run into the edge of the display into the electronics, warm water should be fine on the display. Make sure to moisten the gunk before you rub it off to prevent scratching. Try to "lift" it off rather than spread it around (could scratch the display). Good luck.

I suggest getting some iKlear with the cloth. It worked wonders on a dirty Ti Powerbook screen I had.

I suggest NOT using a Paper towel. They are usually made up from a very rough paper which I think is was from wood chippings. They will slightly scratch your screen.

I would use a damp cloth using warm (40-50°C) to try and soften it. then carefully dab it off (i.e. place and hold cloth in place) to slowly remove it layer by layer without moving it around.

best 'o luck.

IT'S OFF!

I used an old t-shirt (very soft one) in warm water to soften it, and that got the thick part of it off. Then using some regular display cleaner, it came off....good as new! There was even more on the back of the display (a thick "river" of it) that I used a handiwipe to get off.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I was so upset when I came back and found my baby ruined. THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU!

That is great that it is off. At least this thread wasn't you telling us the ACD was ripped off during winter break.

I thought this was going to be another friend surfed porn on my Mac thread.

At least you know that those paper cups from take-out are not meant to hold liquid very long -- they tend to soak though the wax coating and dissolve the paper at some point.

Leaving a mess.

Just basically don't leave cups around the machines, you might knock them over or forget about them...

I am not entirely sure what was in the cup. I usually just drink water, but I suspect this may have been orange juice. The amusing thing was, this drink seemed extremely SINISTER as it HUNTED DOWN all the things that were precious to me. It went diagonally to the left down two sets of shelves to drip on my monitor, and then sideways across my desk to coat my Mariah DVDs. How it defied the laws of gravity, I may never know.

But, it worked out, and I've learned a lesson :D
