I have been using Carbon Copy Cloner and Time Machine together. I only use CCC so I can immediately get back to work if something happens, and it is never up to date like TM.

Now that CCC is paid, I was thinking of creating a small OS only bootable partition, maybe on an SD card. Then if I need to get back to work immediately I can boot into that and run my apps, files, etc. from the TM backup. I realize you would have to manually go through TM to find the files.

Does that make sense, could it work? Thanks!

Do you use 10.8? Have you looked at SuperDuper? If you do not use 10.8, you can still use the free CCC version 3.4.4. Hell, 3.5 "only" got official ML support and other things.

That would work. It will be dog slow, but would work in a pinch.
