Emoji for Mac OS Lion did not make itself readily apparent when I upgraded from Snow Leopard without a little nudging! Go to: System Preferences > Keyboard > CHECK Show keyboard and Character Viewers in menu bar. Little keyboard will clutter your menu bar (at the top). Click it and select Show Character Set. Emoji will be in the list at the left. Doube-click, or drag, have fun. IMHO, its a PITA compared to the iPhones usability. The characters do not show up in Font Book under the Apple Color Emoji section. BTW: all these Apple fonts are at the end, not alphabetically as I have seen in posts. Anyone else have better luck?
I’m running Lion 10.7.1 and the FontBook shows that Emoji is there. However, the Emoji emoticons sent from iPhones are still NOT viewable in iChat, Safari, Mail, or any other places. Does anybody know why?
