Hi all. I recently replaced my old Radeon 5870 with an EVGA GeForce 980 SC (unflashed). My Mac had been set up as FileVault, and I understood from weeks of reading many useful posts on this forum that I would’t be able to see the login screen at boot. That was fine with me. I installed the Nvidia drivers.

What I found though was that I wasn’t able to log in with the 980 in the Mac at all. I had the black screen, but typing my login password and pressing enter had no effect. The fans on the 980 would occasionally spin up if I left it idle, but there didn’t seem to be anything happening. Started to think I may have made a very costly mistake.

I stuck the 5870 back in, and after trying an OS reinstall and clearing NVRAM, I thought I’d try to turn off FileVault and turn on auto-login. When I finally got the drive unencrypted and restarted with the 980 back in, this worked first time.

What I’m wondering is, is this expected behaviour? I’d like to re-enable FileVault if possible, but I don’t want to have to undo it all again. Is there some reason I’m not able to send keyboard input to the FileVault login screen when booted with the 980, or do I have a rare failure here? Thanks for reading.
