Enabling shared/iCloud Screen Time on device with two others already sharing

I have an iPad with Screen Time configured on it, but the option to share with other devices is not enabled.
Two other devices have Screen Time configured with sharing enabled.
I haven't been able to discover what will happen if I activate the sharing option on the iPad: will the settings be replaced by what's stored in iCloud? Or will it erase or merge whatever is already in iCloud (I assume it's stored somewhere there)?
