Hi!

I plan to switch from my trusty old Mac Pro 4,1 to a Mac Mini. Thus I have a handful of 3,5" drives that I'd like to put into an external enclosure. Ideally, I'd like to have a single enclosure with a single power supply that houses all of them. But since I don't need all drives all the time, I'd like to retain the ability to switch them on / off independently, so no RAID or JBOD or anything like that. Does something like that exist?

Edit: I think I have found something, apparently it's called DAS (Direct-Attached Storage). Any recommendations?

Have you really considered simply copying all the content to a small-sized, cheap, silent external SSD? Small cable, no power cable. A 4TB usb 3 will cost you no more than 200usd and give you multiple times the read/write speed of those HDs. And the age of them, mechanical with moving parts and everything. Just the natural time to move away from HDs and invest in the future, I'd say.

I have a stack of five 3.5" HDs in housings connected individually to my Mac Studio. I probably paid $20-$30 each for those enclosures and maybe $20 for the powered hub they go through.

Whatever you get make sure it has an on/off switch that will be ON after a power outage. Three of mine have those stupid "soft" power switches that have to be re-engaged after an outage.

Exactly what I have. Each bay has its own on // off switch. Solid and straight forward.
