Encrypt External Drive

Hey guys, I'm looking for a way to Encrypt my external hard drive. I tried doing it in OSX, but it says the drive must be GPT. My drive is MBR Partition Scheme, using ExFAT. I need to use the drive in Windows and OSX which is why I choose ExFAT\MBR. In Windows I can encrypt using BitLocker, but then I cannot use the drive in OSX.

What's the "simplest" Option to Encrypt the External Drive for use in Windows and OSX?
