I have an existing Time Machine backup that has always been unencrypted, but I would like to encrypt it. I followed the instructions on how to do it here: http://www.mactrast.com/2013/07/how-to-public-how-to-encrypt-time-machine-backups-with-os-x/

However, when I try to re-add the existing backup with the option to "encrypt the backup" checked off, I keep getting this error message: This disk already contains an unencrypted backup for this computer. Would you like to continue using the existing unencrypted backup, or choose a different disk?" Basically it doesn't give me the option to encrypt the existing backup.

Am I missing something here? Has anyone else figured out how to do this?

Edit: The disk is a USB hard drive connected to my Time Capsule, which I also back up to. That disk is already encrypted.
