I'm still rocking the G4 powerbook, which, aside from weight, is one of the best laptop designs ever. I love gadgets made from metal, and I love the look of the anodized aluminum (aluminium for you crazy brits). I've been planning to upgrade forever, and I'll be taking the plunge with the next update, whether it's Arrandale or sooner.

My concern is the new texture on the ipod nanos... I'm thinking that gloss look will spread to the iMacs in their next update, and then to the MBP line. Who knows, this could actually look nice, but I imagine it would get finger-printy very easily.

Does anyone else think this is likely to happen?

p.s. - I've always thought a brushed aluminum MBP would look pretty rad

Not when they just came out with unibody design last year.

I see apple sticking with aluminum for quite some time, like may forever :)

Yeah, I don't see it leaving anytime soon. The new design cut manufacturing costs for Apple so unless Apple finds a new way to reduce costs even further, I don't see a change. Let's face it, the current design is pretty solid.

I don't see them leaving aluminum for awhile either, but the new ipod nanos are still aluminum, they're just "polished" according to the apple website. So, apple wouldn't have to change the unibody design at all, just "polish" the aluminum...

I hope they don't, I'm just noticing a trend for apple products shifting towards high-gloss.

I think that the aluminum design is a staple for the new revisions for at least a year, after which Apple might release a machined titanium design. The one thing that I don't like about the new aluminum is the metal's softness. It gets scratched, dented, bent, and warped so easily. But it makes up for it by having a high strength to weight ratio, smooth finish, and a nice heat dispersion system.

Titanium is probably gonna be too expensive.

Titanium has also all been mined out. That's what my best friend told me when I was taking him to his work accident doctor's appointment cause a crane fell on him- so you know it's true.
