Apple really wants Depreciation to hit the 2016 MBP to hit hard. It's like would you pay sticker price for a 2016 vehicle with 2 months left in the year ? No way there huge discounts.

Here we have a 2016 MBP with a huge price premium and it's a 2016 Model in 2 months. Less by the time orders arrive. If anything Apple should have announced it as the 2017 MBP to give it some life they essentially skipped all of 2016.

1) As it was late in the year, it will show as being "Late 2016", as they always have. Rather than "Early 2016", "Mid 2016", or as you're fearing, simply "2016".

2) It really, really, really doesn't matter.
