Energy Saver - Wishing to monitor when/which drives spin down

I'm thinking of enabling the energy saving option to put hard drive(s) to sleep whenever possible. However, I'd ideally like to monitor which drives go to sleep and when they sleep/wake. Is there a log kept anywhere in OS X to allow me to monitor this? I've had a look around the existing logs but I can't seem to find anything.

Any and all help appreciated as always :)
