Energy Saving issue

Greetings, all, and a Happy New Year.
I am running Leopard 10.5.6.
Whenever I use skype (with video) or watch Joost, or even a DVD, or similar, my screen goes black, even if my energy saving settings are set to 'never'....
Any help gratefully received.

Is it a laptop?

I don't have experience with mac ones, but i have an old ACER one running XP Pro...



Is the power cord plugged in during movie playback? My laptop has energy saver settings, but they switch when I unplug it and run off the battery.
