Hi everyone.

I have been using the same setup for many years, and recently things started behaving strangely.

I have a Mac Pro desktop running 10.14 Mojave. I use MacX Youtube Downloader to download videos on tech and other interests. This has worked fine for years. The videos are in English, and when downloaded they are still in English. Lately I have had an issue where some English videos end up with a Portugese voice / audio track. I can't figure out what's going on. Just to check further, I used another computer, my Mac laptop running OS Monterey 12.7.6. I did a fresh install of MacX Youtube Downloader (never installed on this laptop before) and tried to download one of these videos, and still the English audio gets translated to Portugese. This is happening with several different videos on different topics from different creators.

Any help or ideas would be most appreciated.

Thank you.

Regulus67. I think there is a bug in MacX YouTube Downloader. I tried downloading and installing another program, 4K Video Downloader, and re-downloaded two videos that have previously given me trouble, and they both downloaded correctly. Just to cross check, I used MacX YouTube Downloader to download these two videos straight after, and they both had the Portuguese audio track. I hope this helps.

It could be a bug. Or that some videos have some setting that deviates from the norm.
I even tried to set my VPN to a country outside the EU, but it didn't change the dubbing. Luckily, most videos do not have this issue. Perhaps it is a temporary issue.

I also tried Brandnewtube downloader but it told me it found videos without sound, in those cases.

Hi Regulus67. Yes, maybe it is a temporary issue. For me also, this issue only occurs with some videos, not all. At any rate, 4K Video Downloader seems to solve the problem for me, so I would suggest you give that one a go.

Still have issues quite often, with German dubbing now. I understand German, but dubbed voice over is not what I want
So I followed you suggestion, and have started to use

Thank you for the tip

It's not a bug, it's EweTube doing everything it can to shove ads down our throats. They somehow can detect you're using an ad-blocker, and can somehow feed you only an alternative-language overdub.
I had been using Safari with the Vinegar and Wipr plug-ins, they've been defeated by EweTube, then I used a free app called Swizztube, but YT has defeated that also. I'm now using DuckDuckGo as a browser, and so far (knock on wood) their "Duck Viewer" has been working well for me; I'm writing down the alternate apps mentioned above, just in case.

Just remembered there are two channels "Duck Viewer" doesn't work on: macmost.com (they have their own site so I can watch his videos there), and Andrew Robinson, an audiophile reviewer (but, oddly, watching Robinson on Safari works, and he has NO ads!?!? I don't understand it).

Per what I said on Saturday, I’m wondering if now YT has found a way to cripple the playback on iPads now too. My iPad does run Vinegar (I don’t think there’s a Wipr extension available on iPadOS).
If you’re using an iPad and have Vinegar installed, could you see if you’re getting the same results? And if you’re using an iPad and DON’T have Vinegar installed, do you still have playback capability? TIA.
