I noticed that in the video recording settings of my iPhone 14 Pro Max, there is a new option called "Enhanced Stabilization", which gives a small crop to the image and improves stabilization. Are you leaving this option enabled or disabled?

Enable if you need it and disable if you don’t as there is a resolution penalty for using it.

In other words the default is to disable it. If you are going to videotape active things like kids running around and such then enable it and disable it afterward.

I believe it crops or decreases the image size in the process. I would leave it off. It is not for shooting moving objects, it is for stabilizing YOUR movements of the phone.

It's funny that this option came enabled by default on my iPhone. But I was really in doubt about the crop to harm the image.
I might be wrong but I thought I saw a demonstration on how it worked and they steadied the image buy using the central image cropped and moved in opposite directions to make the camera seem to be steady.

Maybe someone can explain this better. Apple likely had it engaged by default to help your videos. You can check out and do a test with it on and off to see if it crops.

For me to know how much the image will be cropped, I would have to put the device on a tripod and do the test. My fear is to be losing a lot of image around and quality, since cropped image there is always a loss.

‘I agree about the cropped image camera moving too much while doing video is not good either. I have seen some so bad it make you sick to your stomach. Everything is a compromise , we a lucky as it looks like Apple gives us all choice!

I did a bit of research and it “Action Mode” that crops the image. The camera moves both the lens AND the sensor to steady your image. It crops and you can easily tell by turning it on and off and watch the image crop when on and uncooperative when it is off. You may not like the crop but it smooths out camera movement unbelievably well!

This option I mentioned is different from the Action Mode option. This option I mentioned is for Video and Cinema Mode without activating Action Mode. In Action Mode the crop is even bigger.
