Everyone here knows how the intense AMD/Intel competition following the release of the Athlon made life more difficult for Apple. There has been some discussion about this sort of thing happening again because of the Opteron/Athlon 64, this time effecting the G5. Well apparently Intel has today responded to the Opteron by releasing more powerful Xeons for two processor (workstation) use, which differ from the older Xeon DP's by adding 1MB of L3 on die. According the SPEC scores, this allows Intel to play their usual game of staying just one step ahead of Opteron.

:) Yeah, should be interesting. Those 2.5ghz G5's had better be ready in the first few months of 2004.
