Heya folks!

I tried to search the Forums and did not see something close to this and wanted to post something for those that might run into something like this in the future.

I enrolled in the iPhone Upgrade Program last year and ordered an iPhone 13 Pro Max which was stolen at UPS before it got to me.

I ended up getting my replacement iPhone from Apple 5 weeks later.

I have been charged every month by Citizens for my loan

When the announcements were over for the iPhone 14 and the online store opened, I went to the iPhone Upgrade Program page and entered the serial number and other information for my iPhone and was told I was not enrolled in the program.

I am still a little startled at how many hours I was on the phone with Apple about this. I was told it was because the replacement phone they sent me was refurbished, my loan was declined at Citizens and a host of other things and was bounced around from department to department. Along the way Apple said my loan was still applied to my original stolen iPhone but could not figure out any way to change it to the correct iPhone

So, I called Citizens Bank and ended up with a supervisor as the person who picked up my call which was great luck because she was able to tell me this happens more often than you would think.

So....

If you are in the iPhone Upgrade Program and you need your phone replaced, make sure they move your AppleCare if applicable and your Citizens Loan to the new device. If they don't it will take 3-5 days for the change to be applied and in the case of this year and previous years that would leave you unable to order a new iPhone on release day if you made this discovery when trying to check your eligibility to get a new iPhone.

The person at Citizens was great. She said to go ahead and order the new iPhone and make a new loan and when it arrives, we could both get on the phone and she would call Apple on my behalf to move my new iPhone over to a new loan and work on returning my iPhone 13. I still have an open case with them to do that.

However. I realized I have some equity in my iPhone 13 and will be selling it to a friend and paying off the loan.

This took so many hours and would take more hours if I was not able to sell my current phone so I am hoping that if someone runs into this situation this post can help them and I hope this will help you remember to make sure your loan is transferred to your iPhone if it needs to be replaced.

Something I find helpful after activating a new Apple device (including a replacement) is to log into mysupport.apple.com to ensure everything is correct. I don't know if the upgrade program shows there, but it's a good way to ensure the serial number, model, and AppleCare+ are all correct.

I wonder if Citizens loan details include the serial number.
