Entourage 2008
OS 10.8.5

Had an issue yesterday that's been difficult to explain and I'm hoping someone here can provide an answer.

End-user was having issues with their Entourage profile which necessitated re-adding the account and deleting the old one. Local Entourage cache was cleared and database rebuilt for no effect. Went into Entourage -> Account Settings and added the account and let it auto-complete after selecting "this account is on an Exchange server" and entering the user's email address. This is the same process that was previously used to create the account the first time (per standards here), and no changes are made to the default settings.

User now has two accounts in Entourage with the same settings (different names). New account begins populating successfully, so I go in and delete the old account. Entourage freezes up for a few minutes, then the old account disappears. We wait for the new account to finish updating the folders, then have a look. Appears that no email exists from the time previous to creating the new account. All the folders within the inbox are still there, but are empty.

I log into OWA, which appears exactly the same; folders are there but empty.

User can normally view email on their iPhone, and default settings for an Exchange server in Entourage does not delete email from the server (no POP or IMAP account configured), so I'm wondering what the heck happened? I've had to promise gifts of expensive microbrewed beverages to our Exchange team to get them to work to restore 10 years of this user's email.

Ideas?
