Hi everyone,

I'm trying to create a simple rule that will allow me to copy any messages I flag as a To Do Item to a folder called, "To Do."

So far I have this: If "Status is FLAGGED," then "Copy Message to TO DO." This doesn't seem to work though.

Any help on this?

Thanks in advance!

You could just go to the task view (fifth button in the toolbar), then click on "to do list", which will show you all of your tasks as well as your flagged items. Alternately, on your calendar, you can add in the "to do list" by clicking on the toolbar icon for it, which will show you the same thing.

The rule that you've described here looks right for moving flagged messages into a folder. Can you post a screenshot of the rule window? It might be that you've got one of the settings in there wrong.

Regards,
Nadyne.

Hi Nadyne,

Thanks, those are good suggestions.

Here is the screenshot:

Spot anything wrong with this? :T

Thanks in advance!

Hmmm, that rule looks right. Make sure that you created the right type of rule -- there's separate rules for each type of mail server (POP, IMAP, Hotmail, Exchange). If you create a rule for POP but you're actually on IMAP, your rule won't fire.

Hi Nadyne,

Interesting. Checked this, however, and everything seems to be in place.

Any other ideas? :T

Do you have other rules for this account that are working?

Nadyne.

Hi,

Thanks for not giving up on my problem! :)

Yes, I have about 15 other rules that all currently work.

Ah-ha! I got it! Although it's probably not an answer that you're going to like, and I'm embarrassed that it took me so long to figure it out. :(

Rules are run on messages when you receive them. The messages aren't flagged when you receive them. That's something that you do afterwards, which is after the rules have already been run. The way to get these messages into your "flagged messages" folder is to select your messages and go to the Messages menu, then select Apply Rules, and finally select the rule you want.

Someone who's better at AppleScript or Automator than I am might be able to figure out a better method for running this rule automatically occasionally so that you don't have to do it. I'm not a great scripter, so that's beyond my abilities. You might want to try the Entourage public forums to see if one of the scripting geniuses there can help you out.

Oh, wow. Yeah, unfortunately, that does make perfect sense. I guess I'll have to turn to one of the alternatives you suggested previously.

I'm not too good with Automator either, but a script would probably be helpful.

Thanks so much, Nadyne! :)
