I use Entourage 2008 with an Exchange 2007 server. It mostly works, but I am having a problem.

I created a new folder in Entourage for a project an moved the messages to it that are related. After an hour the new folder still had not appeared on the server (checked via outlook 2007 and OWA). Even after right-clicking "synchronize now" it is still not there.

So, out of curiosity, I created a new folder in Outlook (using the same Exchange 2007 mail account) and dropped in some messages. It is now the next day and Entourage does not have it even though it exists on the server (confirmed through OWA).

Creating the missing folder on either side does not trigger any sync (the messages are still missing/are in the original location).

So - how do I get these things to TRULY sync? Will the Exchange Web Services for Entourage fix this should it be released before I go mad and am locked away?

Did you create the folder on the server or did you create it on your computer? Two things that you need to understand:
  1. Every Exchange installation is unique.
  2. Entourage is not an Exchange management tool.
  3. OWA is an Exchange management tool.
OK, that was three things.

I created one folder via outlook, one other via entourage.

the outlook folder appears on the exchange server as verified by OWA. but it does not appear in entourage.

the entourage-created folder appears no where except entourage.

Entourage is MS's official and only Exchange client for Mac OS. It should have no problems with syncing a new folder just as sending a message through entourage saves the copy in Sent Items on the server and moving messages between existing folders is reflected on the server. In fact some of those folders were created through entourage before.

something seems to be wrong or that it used to work was a fluke.

My only guess as to why your Entourage folder wouldn't show up in Outlook is that you created it locally instead of on your Exchange account. That is, your new folder is listed under "On My Computer" instead of whatever your Exchange account is named (mine is "Microsoft"). If that's the case, then you can simply drag the folder from "On My Computer" to your Exchange account and let it sync.

A folder created in Outlook should show up in Entourage without a problem at all. You should work with your local IT guys to see if they can help you figure out what's going on, or call Microsoft tech support. You get two free calls to tech support with your purchase of Office 2008.

Nadyne.

Thanks Nadyne. I'm definitely using the exchange account in entourage. I don't use "on my computer" for anything.

Also, thanks MisterMe for your hint.

Sync problem with messages

I have an iMac using Entrourage and an old PC using Outlook, some of my employers applications will only work with IE (<8) on a PC. I sent and received some messages while using the PC, but then later I found the one's I sent are on the Mac but the one's I received on the PC are not.

*bump* Necropost

Sorry to do this, but this nasty little bugger is not widely documented and I'm looking for a better answer than "move subfolders to the Mailbox root."

That solution works, but stinks on ice.

Does it redeem me at all that the root subfolder storage solution goes unmentioned here?

Supposedly Entourage 2008 Web Services needs to be used, but I'm unclear on how to verify that the user is running that version. She has E2008 and it has been updated to completion (*contented sigh*)

Outlook 2011 is incompatible with mandatory secure email use in my environment so upgrade is not an option.

If I am boned, an authoritative resource outlining why I am S.O.L. would be appreciated. I found a good one at a university web site, but that's not thick enough to wash my hands of the problem.

Thanks for any and all who assist.
