epson 1290 printer not behaving itself on 17" unibody MBP

I migrated my C2D 2.33 15" MBP running 10.5.6. over to my new 17" 2.93 MBP and now my Epson inkjet 1290 printer is not working properly i have deleted and reinstalled driver repaired permissions. but still cant add printer in preferences as the driver is greyed out

It still prints just about but i cant select print quality or paper type the options are crossed out. this is what i see underneath the crossed out options
"the bundle "PrintSetting" could not be loaded because it does not contain a version for the current architecture"

Hi David, I too have the very same problem, but with the old Epson C88. I feel like its not worth the hassle of dealing with Epson but was wondering if you ever figured it out?
