This is a heads-up for owners of Epson R300 and some other Epson printers. There is an internal "counter" that at a certain point will stop the printer and announce: "service required". You will be advised to call Epson - before the printer will print again. Something about a full overflow tank. /

Anyway - to reset the counter and get your printer back again:
While the printer is on - hold down the power, stop and paperjamreset buttons simultaneously for 10 seconds. You will hear a terrible grinding sound while the counter is resetting.

Another rant in my love/hate relationship with Epson products.

Thanks for the info. I have a R300 that I've used for my dvds and I'm sure some day this will happen to me or someone I know, so now this info can be passed on down the line :)
Shame some companies do this, not just technology companies either as this happened with a service engine light with my new Jeep Grand Cherokee that was a month old and the program was set wrong (someone forgot to add some zeros  ).
Anyway thanks again.

tried that counter reset, problems

Hi - i read your solution to resetting the counter. I have an epson R220, in the same series as the 300. when i press all three buttons at the same time, for 10 seconds, nothing at all happens. the printer switches to "off" (since i am pressing the off button) and i start it up again, try holding the off button and the stop button, same thing, nothing. any other ideas? i don't understand why it would not work for my printer and it does for yours?
thanks ( i REALLY don't want to run out annd buy another printer just because the counter has hit a certain volume - i bought tons of ink for this printer and i'll have to trash it all!)

It works!

Thanks! Please note, everyone, that when you press all three buttons, the printer WILL go off...don't despair, just keep pressing and it will come back on and grind like crazy....but it works!

I was in the middle of printing out a manuscript of my new book to get to a publisher today when I got the service message...so you saved my you-know-what! And my bacon.

Brilliant.
