Epson Stylus Pro 9600 on iMac (Intel)

I'm new to Apple and the OS, so bear with me, I'm a photographer and print fine art prints so need the printer following my profiles and under control.

iMac 20" Intel, 2G ram, Epson Stylus Pro 9600 (large format printer, Ultrachrome Inks and fine art papers) via usb no RIP, latest Epson driver (epson29538eu.dmg), OS updates are current.

I can print using the default OS drivers so nothing wrong there, I can use my custom icc profiles when printing from CS2 but the quality is pathetic, also the printer options are limited to basics.

I installing the new Epson OSX Intel driver (epson29538eu.dmg), it creates the Epson folder and the utility works for ink monitoring and head maintenance, however it doesn't appear as a listed model in the print set-up utility (unless I'm looking in the wrong place). I tried adding a new version of the gimp drivers and they are listed in the printer models (so I’m installing correctly) but they are hopeless. I have followed numerous online guides but no avail, so no idea what I need to do.

Could anyone possibly give me a step-by-step installation of the Epson driver before I go grey or even worse bald?

1. Find the Printer Setup Utility in /Applications/Utilities folder and start it.
2. It should bring up a dialog and give you the option to add.
3. If it doesn't recognise the printer, click More Printers...
4. On the next dialog, select EPSON USB from the drop down list
5. It should see your printer at this point, you select it, and click Add.

I do not have an Epson USB option?

It needs to be installed. You sure that you haven't missed a file somewhere? Epson doesn't put files into one neat package. They make you dig from the beginning to the end.

Did a reinstall, also a permissions repair, the Epson was reported as wrong permissions after the repair and restart all worked perfectly.

types of vinyl to print on

i have just bought a 9600 and am wondering what types of self adhesive vinyl to buy that will work well with matte inks or gloss inks? i plan on using them for the outdoors. if anyone knows it will be a great help to me.
