I've not seen Equilibrium, anyone other than the OP think I should rent it?

Equilibrium is more reminiscent of 1984, at least I thought so when I saw it. Its hard to compare since one is a set of films and the other is a single film.

bad acting can ruin an entire movie. In the Matrix's case, Keeanu and company ruined the entire series for me.

I specifically chose the Matrix to compare it to because:

1.) A quote on the cover of the DVD compares it to the Matrix ("Forget the Matrix... this movie will blow you away! - WBAI")
2.) They both appeal to the same crowd and exhibit the same elements of sci-fi/martial-arts/fantasy.
3.) I knew it would get your panties in a bind

An added bonus was that it somewhat draws from 1984 (one of those "book" thingies), though, even if I hadn't read it; I likely still would have enjoyed the movie more than the Matrix.

Equilibrium - for those of you who've never heard of IMDB.com

Everyone satisfied?

I'm surprised by how few have even heard of it.

Plus it has Christian Bale in it! What could possibly go wrong?

In all seriousness, yes I saw Equilibrium, and thought it was an awesome movie. The finale was the most badass scene ever filmed.

But I enjoyed The Matrix* quite a bit as well. I couldn't really compare those two, as they are different in many ways. I just say I like both!

*The sequels not included. The sequels are horrible.

In fairness, I probably would've liked the Matrix a tad more, had I not seen the sequels. They detracted from the original.

My tongue is still wagging from seeing Bale's character catapult the rifle over his head, and into his arms. Ending with remarkable sword play was the icing on the cake.

i've got to check this out. i remember catching random clips from time to time and my friends raving about it. apparently it's really violent?

Well I checked IMDB and just saw the picture of the movie poster and said to myself, "you must be ****ing joking me" and then I closed the window and hope to never see it again.

That is all.

I think there's something about "don't judge a book by it's cover" somewhere in there.

Equilibrium is a odd film...

So many of its constituent parts seemed wrong, and the plot had bus-sized holes, but somehow the whole was far more enjoyable than the sum of its parts.

I suspect this is because a great performance by Christian Bale, and the general coolness of the gun scenes was able to make up for other flaws.

I really enjoyed it; I just can't say why :p

Equilibrium is one of my all time favorite movies, but I don't know if it's better than the Matrix.
Here is something interesting, though: While I loved Equilibrium, and I know at least a dozen people who have seen it, and at least eleven of them loved it (a couple even call it their favorite movie), the movie got HORRIBLE critic reviews when it came out!

If you haven't seen it, rent it!
