Hey guys,

I just purchased a second hand Iphone 4 and would like to clean it up a bit. As i was browsing through Cydia and the Iphone i saw almost any app you can think of. The phone was a bit laggy compared to my other Iphone 4 i have. I would rather go through the process of "Erasing all content and settings" rather than just restore. I know it might take longer but I just rather do it right the first time.

Iphone 4

Version : 4.3.1
Baseband: 04.10.01
Running on T-Mobile and UNLOCKED BY GEVEY SIM

Ok so my question is.... After I "Erase all content & settings" which will get me to the "activate phone (Connect to itunes)" screen, Will I be able to restore it back to 4.3.1 with a Custom firmware from that same "Active screen" or is there another step I have to do before that? Also when i restore it to 4.3.1 will it still preserve the 04.10.01 baseband which I need to have the phone unlocked? Another thing... will I see the Wheel of death?? if I do what options do I have?

I know there is an Untethered JB for the new IOS 5 by dev team but I would like to stay away from that for now.

Don't do that. That "Erase all contents and setting" only works on Non-Jailbroken phone. Your is jailbroken and if you do, your phone will hang at the apple logo and you will have to restore.

use iFaith.

Will I have to restore it with the latest firmware that apple has released or can I restore it with 4.3.1 CUSTOM FIRMWARE? I know I could potentially get stuck on the apple logo but by then the phone will have erased and reset everything right? I know there is some workarounds if you get stuck on there. but I need clarification.

Thanks

OK so I found part of my question here by reading the FAQ on Apple and Berry for GEVEY SIM.

Can the GEVEY Ultra unlock iPhone 4 with custom firmware installed?

If your iPhone 4 has custom firmware installed, the GEVEY Sim adapter will not work. You must restore your iPhone 4 to the original firmware to unlock your iPhone 4.

There is just many things you gotta take into consideration and it just kind of makes me second guess the process I'm planning.

Use iFaith to dump your current SHSH blob, create customs firmware 4.3.1,then restore your phone to it.

1)So once I "Erase all content & settings" just restore it to the Custom IPSW I created with Ifaith via Ifaith not Itunes right?

2) So it will be ok even if I use Gevey to unlock?

I was also reading that Ifaith will not preserve your baseband?.... Or it will not update the base band right?? it will only restore the IPSW?

Thank you for your patience as I have been out of the JB and unlock scene for a while. I been rocking the 2G since it came out.

Thanks a bunch

1. Again, don't ever to use that button. Once you stuck with the boot loop, you might have to restore to the latest firmware. Therefore, you will loose the baseband you have and will loose the Gevey unlock as well.
2. iFaith only save SHSH and create firmware for your phone, you will need to use Itunes to restore your phone by using that firmware.
3. Since you have 4.3.1, the baseband is 03.10. So, iFaith can keep this firmware & baseband for you.
4. Gevey work fine as long as your phone has baseband 04.10 or below.

Really dude?
What part of DO NOT EVER CLICK THE ERASE ALL BUTTON ON A JB IPHONE dont you understand?
You can create a custom 5.0.1 ipsw with redsnow to preserve you baseband and update to that JB 5.0.1 so your gevey will still function after.

I tried so type so fast every time I see his post. I afraid I am late because he already hit that button... :D

Ok ok... fine I got it now "Never Use that button". I just thought i'd be able to do it just like I did with my 2G phones. Either way... Thanks again for the help.
