Hello,

I am going to be giving away my SIMless iPhone. I intend to "erase all content and settings" under the Reset menu in General settings to delete all contacts, etc. However, I am concerned that this will re-lock the phone and necessitate AT&T activation to use it as an iPod again. I don't want that to happen. Will it do this, or am I safe in choosing that option?

Thanks for any advice.

When you remove the sim card, it will make the iPhone not be able to restore/update. If the sim has already been de-activated, it can't be re-activated. Put the sim back in and do a whipe on the Phone and a DFU mode restore in itunes to make sure your data is gone.

If you still want to use it as an iPod then don't do what he suggested... And I am 90% sure that "Erase Content and Settings" will lock up your phone again.
