Erase all settings not working

I want to erase all settings on my 4 to prep for sale. When i tried to erase all settings, the phone went to the apple screen with a progress bar and stayed there all night (7+ hours).
Any thoughts on why this would happen?

Is your phone jailbroken? if so you can't use the resset functions on the phone, you have to use the restore feature in iTunes.

Thanks. It is JB. problem is, iTunes won't let me restore back to 4.3.3 for some reason.

If you haven't saved your blobs, you won't be able to load the older software. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, then I *think* your only option now is to install iOS 5.
