Erase & jb/unlock 3g and keep 3.1.3?

Hey guys,

Newbie here! I have been reading up on jb/ unlocking and I have a question:

I am thinking about selling my 3g with 3.1.3 jb/unlocked because of the bad things I've been reading about 4.0 on 3g (maybe I'll get more money with 3.1.3?).

How do I erase the phone and keep 3.1.3? If I erase content/settings and try to restore as new, won't iTunes make me update to 4.0?

The phone is currently 3.1.3 & not jb or unlocked.

Make sure you're still using iTunes 9.1.1, you can Shift+Click the restore button (Option+Click on Mac) in iTunes and manually select that firmware.

Ok, so I erase content/settings, download this firmware, restore with the downloaded firmware via shift & click restore, then jb/unlock?
Will my backup that I am going to use to restore my i4 (when I get it!) be affected?

Do you agree with keeping it 3.1.3? Or should I just upgrade to 4.0?

Since he has a 3G can't he still do this using itunes 9.2?

I was just assuming he'd do a jailbreak with spirit, which iTunes 9.2 would kill.

Oh, and I do still have iTunes 9.1.1

Do I need to jailbreak and back up shsh first or is that only required for 3Gs?
