Hi I have a jailbroken and unlocked iPhone 3g on 4.2.1 that I wanted to give to a friend. Is there a way to erase everything completely but not have to rejailbreak and unlock? Thanks! Any help would be much appreciated.

you would go through just as much trouble trying to preserve the current setup as you would upgrading and rejailbreaking on 4.3.1.

But, it's def doable. If you do upgrade, make sure to preserve your baseband.

edit: oops, didn't notice the 3g iPhone.

First, how is it unlocked, is it factory unlocked or Jailbreak unlock?

This is very important since if you perform a reset all, & you got it jailbreak unlocked, you'll loose your jailbreak and your unlock along with it.

I have a jailbreak unlock. I thought the 4.3.1 firmware is not for the iPhone 3g. I thought 4.2.1 is the latest with the iphone 3g

The highest you can go with a 3G is 4.2.1. If you want to wipe the phone, you could just restore with iTunes and re-jailbreak with GP and unlock with ultrasn0w.

Not sure what baseband you have though. Probably 6.15?
