Erasing a NWFS partition? Boot camp and Disk Utility failed

Trying to erase my Windows 8 partition (NWFS) but Boot Camp Assistant failed and so did Disk utility, saying that it couldn't recognise the file system.

How can I get rid of this thing?

Is it NTFS? And what Mac OS X version do you use? How did you install Windows on your Mac?

Try removing the partition with the Partition tab in Disk Utility instead of erasing the partition.

How to Resolve a “Partition Failed” Error in Mac OS X

1. Reboot the Mac into Single User Mode by holding Command+S during boot
2. At the command prompt, type:
   

   /sbin/fsck -fy

3. When fsck is complete, type “exit” or “reboot” to reboot
4. Boot the Mac as usual, verify the disk again in Disk Utility, and partition as usual
