putting my Macbook up for sale and was wondering if there's a quick way of returning the Mac to the settings when it was new?

thanks in advance.

This + that.

After that the HDD is either zeroed out or something you chose.

Options in Disk Utility for safe erasing.

You could then reinstall the Mac OS for the next owner or just leave it to her/him.

Boot into your OS X install dvd and go into disk utility and erase the disk, make sure it is formatted as Mac OSX Extended (Journaled) volume. You can name it Macintosh HD just like it was when you bought it from Apple. After that is done if you want you can just reinstall OSX onto the disk and everything will be as it was when you first received the computer.
